ROSSES AC NEWS: KEADUE N.S. WIN THIRD CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL ATHLETICS TITLE IN A ROW

first_imgRosses AC NewsAfter an exciting day’s athletics in Letterkenny last Wednesday, Keadue National School emerged the winners in the 2 teacher section and Roshine National School, Maghery won the 3 teacher category in the Cumann na mBunscol Small Schools Athletics finals.For Keadue, Ciaran Nicholas was in fine form winning the 6th class High Jump and Long Jump and bronze in the Ball Throw and Emma Maloney winning the Junior Ball Throw. Ulitah Boyle won two silver medals in the sprint and 200m. This was Keadue’s third year in a row to win the Cumann na mBunscol Athletics title and caps off a fine year for them as they also won the Cumann na mBunscol Roinn 6 Girls football title. Roshine National Schools had many fine performances on the day. Melissa Mc Gee won the 5th class sprint and Long Jump, got silver in the High Jump and led her relay team to gold. Her sister Aoife also won her two races, bronze in the Long Jump and gold in the relays. Emily Croke threw a pb of 8.45m to win the Shot Putt and picked up a silver in the Ball Throw. Fynn Moulton surprised everyone with gold in the junior Long Jump with a fine effort of 3.85m. Ryan Brennan also picked up a medal in his sprint. Neil Noble won gold in the 5th class sprint. Other medal winners were Elanor O Donnell – sprint and Ball Throw, Jack Treacy – double sprint silver, Rachel Pissaro – sprint, Sarah Jane Hartnett – sprint, Philip Noble and Conor – Ball Throw.Roshine capped off a fine day by winning both the Junior and Senior Relays. Roshine had already won the Best Small School award at the Rosses Primary Schools Sports.These victories were a fitting send-off for principal teacher James Gillespie who retired this week. Rosses Athletic club would like to thank James for the interest and support he has shown for athletics in the school down through the years and wish him and Mary many happy years ahead. Well done to Tara Geoghegan and Aoife Mc Gee who competed in the All Ireland Children’s Games in Tullamore last Saturday. Both girls competed in two events. A superb performance from Tara in the Long Jump who got out to 3.49m which was third best jump overall. Aoife jumped 2.79m and their aggregate score left them in 7th place. Aoife had a superb run in the 60m sprint in a time of 10.03 sec with Tara clocking 10.47 sec for 8th place overall.Rosses AC will have two U-16 Girls teams competing in the National Relays Ch’s in Tullamore on Sat 5th July.The following athletes will be competing in the National Track & Field Ch’s also in Tullamore:Sunday 13th July: Fodhla Mc Fadden in U-16 High Jump at 10.00 am. Emily Croke in U-12 Shot Putt at 12 midday. Patrick Marry in U-12 Long Jump at 12 midday. Luke Mc Dermott in U-15 Javelin at 2 pm.Saturday 26 July: Ailbhe O Donnell and Amy Hanna in U-16 Long Jump at 10 am. Patrick Marry in U-12 High Jump at 11 am. Joseph Sharkey in U-13 Shot Putt at 11 am. Leah Mc Garvey in U-12 Long Jump at 12 midday.Well done to all the athletes who completed the Extreme North Half Marathon last weekend from Culdaff to Moville – Anne Rodgers, Fiona Mc Ginley, Valerie Mc Ginley, Patricia O Donnell, Denis Boner. A special well done to Fiona Mc Ginley – 1st lady finisher. The Half and Full Donegal Marathons will take place on Sunday 24th August 2014. Every level of runner or walker is invited to participate. The 26.2 mile course will take in Letterkenny and the surrounding area. This promises to be an event which will both challenge and encourage all the participants. Discount rate available before end of June.Juvenile training for the younger athletes in Carrickfinn is now finished for the summer.Wednesday night training at the Industrial Estate will be put on hold for the summer months as many people are preparing for Gaelforce North, taking part in 5ks, etc and will commence again in late August.Fit4Life is in Mulladearg on Mondays at 6pm and Wednesdays in Carrickfinn at 6pm.
