Laffor’s Sundowns Bow Out of CAF Champions League

first_imgJebor (R) will be the lone Liberian player featuring in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions LeagueLiberia international forward Anthony Laffor will not feature in the quarter-finals of the 2018 edition of Africa’s biggest club competition, Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, after his team Mamelodi Sundowns failed to qualify from the group stage.Sundowns were yesterday, August 27, 2018, held to a goalless draw against Guinean outfit Horoya FC at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.Laffor’s side needed all three points to qualify to the next of the competition, but the visitors were resolute to the end of time.Laffor started from the bench and was later introduced in the 54th minute by Coach Pitso Mosimane, replacing Jeremy Brockie. The 33-year-old Liberian forward, who was making his third appearance in the continental cup, hit a snap shot from outside the box, forcing Senegalese goalkeeper Khadim N’diaye to make a save in the 62nd minute.The result maintained Sundowns in the third position of Group C, with six points from six games.Meanwhile, another Liberian international, William Jebor, whose team Wydad Athletic Club has qualified, was left on the bench as an unused substitute after the holders drew zero-all against Togo-Port.
