‘One of Liberia’s True Friends’

first_imgThe Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. B. Elias Shoniyin, has praised the State of Qatar for being one of Liberia’s truest friends. His commendation comes as the Qatari Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Mr. Mohamed Ismail Al Emadi, donated seven ambulances to the Liberian government. The vehicles were donated to help boost the health capacity of Liberia as it embarks on building a resilient health sector following the outbreak of the Ebola virus disease. Acting Minister Shoniyin said that during the crisis, a lot of people came to help, but that those who are still around to help after the crisis are true friends. Receiving the ambulances, he stated that he was very delighted for the show of support that Qatar has made and continues to make to Liberia. When President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf wrote her Letter to the World, she presented the scale and magnitude of the crisis. “Qatar was one of the many friends of Liberia that responded in very huge measures to the responce made to the crisis,” Mr. Shoniyin said.The Acting Foreign Minister believed that the huge response of Qatar would not have been made possible without the presence of its diplomatic mission in Liberia. He praised the Qatari Ambassador for working so hard with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to further strengthen and expand the relationship between the government of Liberia and the State of Qatar.“These seven ambulances that have been donated today come as a strong demonstration of the government of the State of Qatar’s commitment to remaining with us in strengthening our health sector in the post-Ebola recovery process,” Minister Shoniyin said. Before he spoke, both Ambassador Al Emadi and Acting Foreign Minister Shoniyin signed and exchanged the “turn-over certificates.”Speaking earlier Tuesday, November 3, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Al Emadi, said the 2014 visit of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to the State of Qatar solidified the bilateral relationship that has now reaped this dividend. The Qatari diplomat accredited near Monrovia further stated that his country is keen on strengthening the relationship with Liberia and that the donation comes “as a sign of friendship, respect and confidence of the State of Qatar for the friendly people of the Republic of Liberia in boosting her fight against the Ebola virus disease and to rebuild the health care system after defeating the virus in Liberia.”He used the occasion to congratulate the Liberian government for defeating the Ebola virus disease. Ambassador Al Emadi said his government responded promptly to the emergency call of the WHO to help Liberia defeat the virus.“Donating the 7 ambulances to the people and government of Liberia just symbolizes the solidarity of the people of the State of Qatar with the people of the Republic of Liberia,” Ambassador Al Emadi stated.He also said that the Qatari-Liberia relationship has recently witnessed great improvements in all aspects of cooperation.
