first_imgVERE Technical’s Kris-Ann Plummer and Kingston College’s Ari Rogers were crowned female and male champions, respectively, at yesterday’s staging of the Hugo Chambers 5K event at Jamaica College.Fifteen year-old Plummer topped the overall female section in 20:38.73 minutes, leading a clean sweep of the top-three spots for the John Mair-coached team, with Alecia Young taking second place in 20:41.32 and third going to Alysha Skyers in 21:13.14.Plummer was pleased with her win, which was her first on the road.”This is my first road race victory and I am very pleased and I am also happy to know that I won for my teammate, Britnie Dixon, who stopped during the race due to a knee injury,”‘ said Plummer.Uganda national Rodgers was very impressive in winning the male event as he won, going away from rivals in a smart time of 15:35.85. His teammate Shane Buchanan finished second in 16:03.88 with Nicholas Elliot making it a clean sweep of the top three spots for the North Street – based institution, finishing third in 17:03.63.Race director Alan Beckford was pleased with the overall staging of the event.”We achieved our main objective once again as this meet is one for development.
