Photo credit: uwpdm.comFive members of the United Workers Party (UWP) have pleaded not guilty to demonstrating outside the House of Assembly last year, without permission of the Police Commissioner.The party’s Deputy Leader Claudius Sanford, Opposition Leader Hector John, U.W.P President Edison James, Norris Charles and Ezekiel Bazil appeared in court Thursday morning, before magistrate Evelina Baptiste.When they assembled outside Parliament building on November 29 2010, the UWP contended Alix Boyd-Knights, Speaker of the House of Assembly, was “blocking” its questions from being heard in parliament.In February, then Deputy police chief Cyril Carrette disclosed police had charged UWP members for violating the Public Order Act.The UWP members, who came before the court Thursday, pleaded not guilty to abetting demonstration and procession without permission from the Police Commissioner and to organizing demonstration without permission from the Police Commissioner. The nonconference matchup is part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Syracuse has won its matchup in the challenge in each of its last two seasons with wins over Maryland (2017) and Ohio State (2018).Iowa returns three starters from last season in which it finished 23-12. The Hawkeyes lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Tennessee, 83-77.  Syracuse returns one player (Elijah Hughes) who started more than six games. Iowa’s top-returning scorer, forward Luke Garza, averaged 13.1 points per game and 4.5 rebounds while Hughes 13.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
