first_imgzoom Rolls-Royce announced today that it has won an order to provide design and integrated equipment packages for two UT 771 WP platform supply vessels to be built by Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group Co. Ltd (SINOPACIFIC), one of the leading shipbuilders in China. The contract incorporates MTU-engines as part of an integrated power and propulsion package within the successful UT-vessel series. The UT 771 WP design from Rolls-Royce enhances the ship’s performance due to the signature wave piercing bow, designed to pierce through the waves in rough seas.Ronny Pål Kvalsvik, Rolls-Royce, Vice President of Sales & Contract – Offshore systems, said: “The order demonstrates SINOPACIFIC’s confidence in our integrated systems and ship design capabilities. This new design has been developed in cooperation between Rolls-Royce, the ship owner and the yard, and will feature technologies that increase fuel efficiency and safety while reducing operation costs and emissions.”Vivian Ye, SINOPACIFIC, Managing Director of Supply Chain Centre, said: “SINOPACIFC is committed to work closely with industry leaders to bring added value and better service to our customers. We are working to build up an open platform to share and encourage sustainable innovations for shipbuilding, and it has been a very good experience working with Rolls-Royce.”The systems from Rolls-Royce will comprise a propulsion system, a power electrical system, a bulk handling system, deck machinery, an automation and control system as well as a dynamic positioning system that uses satellite technology to automatically maintain the vessels’ position without anchoring. The two vessels are scheduled for delivery in late 2015. There are 22 Rolls-Royce UT-vessels under construction in China at present, which will eventually join more than 170 ship owners world wide who have UT-vessels in their fleets.Rolls-Royce, December 3, 2013last_img read more

TT Granny was suffocated …churchyard death for killer

(Trinidad Express) Grandmother Haniffa Bedassie operated a mini mart in her Chaguanas community for over two decades without ever being robbed, until yesterday. The criminal took not only her valuables, but her life.Killed: Haniffa BedassieShe died in the apartment adjoining her shop. Bedassie, 54, is believed to have suffocated on a piece of clothing stuffed into her mouth by the thief to silence her. The thief was shot in the compound of a nearby church by patrolling police officers. He died at hospital.Relatives of Bedassie said that they knew the thief because he grew up in the community and his mother ran a sewing business on the same compound.Bedassie, 54, a mother of two, and grandmother of two, was attacked midmorning in her minimart. She ran to the back where her apartment is located where she was cornered by the thief. He tied her hands and feet on the floor of her apartment and muzzled her with a piece of clothing.“This was the first time that she got robbed here. I found it strange that someone who had been renting there would come back and rob her. It is really unfortunate that he killed her”, said her relative, Deena-lee Siew.“The neighbours were not seeing her and they went to look for her. They were banging down the door. But the bandit was still there. When the people left he ran out through the back. Her son came and found her and started to bawl. The pastor of the church right next door stopped the police and told them that a man with a back pack was running down the road. The police shot him. They shot him in the church compound, the Redemption Worship Centre”, said Siew. The  thief is yet to be identified, police said.
