More fantastic gold intersections for Centamin

first_imgCentamin Egypt, which is developing the first large scale modern gold mine in Egypt, has intersected a further extremely high grade zone of gold mineralisation during its drilling program at the Sukari project in the Eastern Desert region. The intersection is a significant high grade structure parallel to and below the Hapi Zone. The high grade gold assay results in hole D1280, for example, intersected spectacular visible gold and galena in a massive quartz vein (558 – 559 m) within highly mineralised porphyry, which was drilled as a step-out hole to test the down dip extension of the porphyry in the Amun zone on northing 10550N. This hole intersected a high grade zone of 35 m @ 164.09 g/t Au from 550 m, containing a higher grade zone of 3 m @ 1,842.57 g/t Au from 557 m (including 1m @ 5,420 g/t Au from 558m with abundant visible gold). This deeper structure correlates to 6 m @ 15.21 g/t Au in hole RCD521 from 542 m and 22 m @ 21.83 g/t  Au from 549 m in hole RCD1221, 25 m to the south (announced in November 2007).This mineralised intersection sits outside the current optimized pit shell and also outside the upgraded 7.46 Moz Measured and Indicated resource (Measured 2.72 Moz, Indicated 4.74 Moz), and 3.7 Moz Inferred resource, which was announced in December 2007.The current drill program has been very successful in targeting the down dip extension of the Hapi zone and deeperparallel high grade structures within the main porphyry, providing significant results over the past few months of focus in the Amun Deeps area. The company says it strategy remains to drill further the Amun Deeps zone “to add significant ounces to the global gold resource.”last_img read more
